Clarkus: a glutton nematode !

Clarkus papillatus is a ‘glutton’. It is a large, predaceous nematode that feeds on almost everything found in the soils where it lives. Remains of its preys (other nematodes included), bacteria, and soil particles were among the materials detected through electron microscopy  into the intestine of this nematode (http://horizon.documentation.ird.fr/exldoc/pleins_textes/pleins_textes_5/pt5/nemato/27873.pdf). When a nematode like C. papillatus feeds predominantly on plant-parasitic nematodes, it can play a very benefic, favorable action to farmers by reducing their population levels in soils (http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1049964405001404). To see this “glutton” in action, watch the short video available below.
