NEMATODA: the launch of a new nematological periodical

“Dear scientists,

I take great satisfaction in announcing the launch of the new scientific periodical of the Brazilian Nematological Society (BNS), Nematoda. Its ISSN is 2358-436X.

BACKGROUND– The creation of Nematoda is fruit of the reflection of the BNS’s members regarding the recent evolution of global research in the field of nematology, as well as their decision to increase the entity’s protagonism in the international scientific arena.  For several years the Society´s members had been discussing the crisis faced by the periodical Nematologia Brasileira, which suffered from a declining number of articles submitted and accepted, due to various factors. At the Society´s congress in 2012 the general assembly delegated to the new board of directors the task of proposing a solution to the crisis. Soon afterward, I proposed to the board Nematoda´s objectives, editorial policy and administrative structure. The proposal was approved at the Society´s congress in 2013.

The next step was to materialize this decision. Professor Claudia Dolinski assumed the position of Editor-in-Chief of Nematoda in November 2013 and undertook the following steps: formation of the editorial committee, consultation of different publishers and negotiation of budgets and services, creation of Nematoda´s visual identity, structuring of the hotsite and definitive site, transition of articles accepted to Nematologia Brasileira for publication in Nematoda and obtaining the ISSN. The materialization of this work can be seen at the periodical’s hotsite ( The site will soon receive new functionalities and will carry the articles already published with the definitive formatting.

SCOPENematoda publishes research articles, scientific notes, reviews and personal viewpoints on all the “groups” of the phylum Nematoda, for the purpose of contributing to greater integration among nematologists in their various specializations. Manuscripts will be welcome that deal with marine and freshwater nematodes, phytoparasites, micophagus, omnivores, parasites of invertebrates or vertebrates, both of humans and domestic or wild animals. The editorial committee counts on specialists in various areas of study of the phylum, from a wide range of teaching and research institutions throughout the world. This scope, groundbreaking in the scenario of global scientific publications, will facilitate acceptance of Nematoda by public and private indexing services, as well as help the periodical to obtain high “scientific relevance” indices.

The BNS and Nematoda`s editorial committee invite all scientists to visit the periodical hotsite ( and have an entirely new experience in the submission and publication of your manuscripts.”
